PRISON ISLAND AND NAKUPENDA SANDBANK

Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island, is approximately 30 minutes by boat from Stone Town. Our guided tour explores the island's history and around including the huge tortoises that walk around. The island was once owned by an Arab and was intended to be used for the incarceration of recalcitrant slaves, but no prisoners were ever imprisoned; instead, the island became a quarantine camp during yellow fever epidemics.General Lloyd Mathews purchased it, and the jail that still remains in the present was established in 1893, earning the name "Prison Island". The enormous tortoises of the Aldabra might also be found on the island

Nakupenda means "I love you" in Swahili. Situated near Stone Town on Unguja Island, the most exquisite beach in Zanzibar is Nakupenda Beach, also called Nakupenda Sand Bank.
